Colorful Thank You Banner at Los Encinos State Historic Park

During a recent visit to Los Encinos State Historic Park, I caught a glimpse of color on the fence.  I walked outside of the park on Morrison Street and found this cheerful and adorable Thank You banner.

It is complete with silhouette drawing of two ducks.  I think the banner sums up the feelings of all of us working to Stop The Closure and Save the Park.

Thanks to the artists who painted this and posted it.

Anonymous Donor Gifts $150,000 to Keep Los Encinos Open!

Thank you to the Anonymous Donor who made an end of year gift of $150,000 to help save Los Encinos State Historic Park.  The generosity of you and your family is greatly appreciated.

This donation is a great example of the effect that AWARENESS about the plight of the park can have.  The donor saw a December 26, 2011 Los Angeles Times article about the threat to the park and was moved to make the donation.

As Senator Fran Pavley's District Director said at the most recent, January 6, 2012 Save Los Encinos Task Force meeting, "...we've gone from emergency to urgency."  Arrangements for funding the park need to be made for more than one year.  That's why ongoing work continues to raise awareness and funds for Los Encinos State Historic Park.

There's also been an increase of visitors to the park since that December 26th article.  You really can feel the energy that is coalescing about the park.  So keep helping get the word out about the park.  Take some time and stop by and visit the ducks and the historic buildings or just enjoy its tranquility.

Saving Los Encinos Historical Park - a California State Park - in Encino, CA

I attended a meeting under a grand oak tree at historic Los Encinos Park in Encino, Calfornia this afternoon.  California State Senator Fran Pavley organized the meeting.  Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Koretz also attended.  Represenatives from Califonia Assemblymember, Bob Blumenfield were also on hand.  A senior staff member from Congressman Brad Sherman's office also attended and presented an American Flag that had flown over the Capitol to State Park officials to fly at Los Encinos.  State parks officials and Los Encinos docents also participated.

State budget cuts leave Los Encinos and sixty-nine other state parks schedule to close in 2012. Members of the community, local organizations, volunteers, and other stakeholders attended the meeting to hear about the park and discuss ways to keep the park open.  Los Encinos is scheduled to be closed July 2012.

I was very happy people responded well to my thought having a centralized web site about saving Los Encinos State Park will help the cause. It will help get people involved, provide community outreach, and create a place where people can find information, find out where to donate, organize, and focus their efforts to save the park.

Here's a Beta site version.  This will be a site, a web group, social / community network, and a place where information can be exchanged.  Everyone is welcome.  Please comment; comments will be moderated (by me).

This site and its network will be more established in the next couple of weeks. I see this is as a and part of the community effort to save the park.  If you are a stakeholder and have a Los Encinos related web site please send the url and description in a comment so that information can be added to the site.

Thanks and please join the effort and visit frequently.
